“What my daughter and I enjoy most, as members of the RJA&HS, is entering produce into the competitions. It is great to see how enthusiastic children get when growing food. It is not just about finding out where their food comes from but making healthier choices about what food to eat”.

“We both joined the Horticultural Department in 1967 to allow us to exhibit anemones in the Jersey Bulb and Flowers Association Spring Show held in the Agricultural Hall Springfield. Our passion is the growing and exhibiting of dahlias. Each year we have between 130 to 140 dahlia plants from giants to small growing in our garden. Our aim is to give pleasure to others and see a smile on their faces”.

“As a member of the RJA&HS, the sense of community and support is like no other. It is extremely inspirational to speak to other members who share a common passion and love as you do for growing your own produce as well as supporting and cooking with local produce. As a member, the opportunities allow you to open your eyes to the produce available and to make the most of our surroundings with the changing seasons, in which I am able to develop, refine and learn new culinary skills. The variety of produce and freshness, with the strong relationships with suppliers and locals, really makes me feel proud of the Island and lucky as a culinary student to have access to rare and wonderful resources.”

“I joined the RJA&HS 10 years ago. Since that time I have acquired a vast knowledge about growing from members of the Society. I have also attended some of the talks that they organise which are very informative. I also visit most of the vegetable and flower shows and have entered and won awards myself. I thoroughly enjoy the rewards of growing my own produce and the camaraderie with my fellow growers.

As a member of the RJA&HS, I most enjoy being part of a society at the heart of the Islands countryside and being among like minded people.

Having one of the Society’s allotments I really enjoy being part of the allotment community, growing my own produce and taking part in allotment events.

I also enjoy the horticultural shows which gives me a chance to exhibit what I have grown and learn from other members”.
